The Best Parks Located In Huntington NY

My favorite park in Huntington

If you are looking for great culture, Huntington has it all. From museums to art galleries to shops and dining, you can spend a whole weekend roaming the town and you won’t get bored or be disappointed at all. I would be sure to visit on a nice, sunny day and take a stroll in Heckscher park which is situated between Prime Avenue and Madison Avenue and lucky for me, it’s walking distance to my office. I’ve been there numerous times and it’s peaceful and beautiful and kept well and very clean. Many people walk around the pond and you’ll see lots of people exercising, walking with strollers or just sitting on benches eating their lunch and watching the turtles and fish. There’s a wonderful playground and adequate parking all around.

The playground

The playground is entirely fenced in and has two areas with swings, a large covered sandbox area, lots of little stationary ride-on things for little toddlers as well as large play sets that you would find in any playground, only better. The entire floor is padded so it’s better than concrete or rocks in case of falls and there are a ton of picnic benches inside the fenced area for tired moms and dads to sit and watch their children play safely. The ice cream truck often comes around which is always a nice treat for the little kids. My kids love going to watch the ducks and hang out on the bridges and look out at the fountains.

On the other side of the park is the Heckcher Musuem of Art

Heckcher is lovely and there is also a stage across the grassy area where there are concerts and shows throughout the year. You would need to check the towns website for the schedule. The only time I’ve seen a show there in all honesty is during the Tulip festival which is a free event held every year in early May. It’s primarily a kid’s festival but anyone can attend. I’ve had a booth for my business there several years and the turnout has always been great. The town does an amazing job planting gorgeous, colorful tulips that bloom just in time.

Huntington Fall Festival

The other time to go to the park is every year during the Huntington Fall Festival which is on Columbus Day weekend. The park is filled with a carnival which includes games and rides and food galore, vendors and you’ll find a ton of great vendors on the streets as well selling crafts, art, clothing, animal products, household and beauty products and of course there are promotional vendors and non-profit vendors. It’s really a wonderful event that’s put on by the Huntington Chamber of Commerce and a great time to spend with friends and family while supporting the community and seeing all about what Huntington businesses have to offer. My one piece of advice is to get there early and plan to spend time looking for parking or just park far away and take a walk to the park because it fills out fast on the side streets. Hope you enjoy Heckscher park as much as I do!
